“I crossed over into pure amor” is a line in the first poem in this book, Over the Line. This tender and passionate outburst sets the tone of the poetry, as a young man searches for his self, making sense of the past while living vividly in the present. In Mediterranean, Frank Romano writes:

caressing with voluptuous Italian waves
holding me close to my ancestor’s bosom
The Mediterranean—spontaneous laughter
inward warmth rising to the surface
in the shape of a smile—
this is where I belong…
…I still have the warm water flowing through
my veins

But Frank Romano is part English, also, and this gives the poetry substance as well as beauty. There is persistence, as he relentlessly tries to examine the past with intelligent analysis. What a joy it is to be involved in the editing of this book—as a woman, fellow workshop member and poet.
