Frank Romano is the author of a recently published book of poems, “Crossing Over”, by World Audience, Inc., New York City. Please see below a list of scheduled poetry reading events.

This book relates his tumultuous, yet powerful, gut experiences, as well as his spiritual awakening, from the halls of a Northern California high school to the streets of an African American ghetto. . .from Parisian midnight streets to enflamed shores of Africa. . .

Please read the following blurbs about the book:

“I crossed over into pure amor” is a line in the first poem in this book, Over the Line. This tender and passionate outburst sets the tone of the poetry, as a young man searches for his self, making sense of the past while living vividly in the present. In Mediterranean, Frank Romano writes:

caressing with voluptuous Italian waves
holding me close to my ancestor’s bosom
The Mediterranean—spontaneous laughter
inward warmth rising to the surface
in the shape of a smile—
this is where I belong…
…I still have the warm water flowing through
my veins

But Frank Romano is part English, also, and this gives the poetry substance as well as beauty. There is persistence, as he relentlessly tries to examine the past with intelligent analysis. What a joy it is to be involved in the editing of this book—as a woman, fellow workshop member and poet.

--Ruth Wire, HayWire Writers’ Workshop

“This collection of poetry by the author of Storm over Morocco reveals a young and a mature man’s inner journey as he travels from California to Paris and the Mediterranean, discovering Italian and French identities. Particularly moving are the poems “Ma Fille” and “Held you”, both exploring the poet’s relations to his children.”

--Mary Ann Frese,
Professor Emerita, Comparative Literature, North Carolina State University

"Frank Romano throws himself headlong—physically and spiritually—into the world. In Crossing Over, Romano generously extends himself through language to make his experiences our own."

--Martha Witt,
Author of Broken As Things Are
Professor of Creative Writing at William Paterson University
